The fruit of the season - Apples

An Apple a Day....apples are in season. They are a tasty and portable snack packing a great nutritional punch providing fibre, vitamin C, flavanoids and phytochemicals. We have a easy tasty dessert that you can make from a simple apple..

You need...

  • 2 medium apples
  • 25g raisins or sultanas
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons low fat spread
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 100mls custard (make with powder and low fat milk)

1. Preheat the oven to 190/375/Gas Mark 5. Wash and dry apples and make shallow cut though the skin around the middle of the apples. Take the core out of centre the apples whilst leaving apple intact and place in ovenproof dish.

2. Mix raisins/sultanas, cinnamon & sugar together and using a teaspoon put the mixture into the centre of the apples where the core used to be. Put a teaspoon of low fat spread on each apple.

3. Pour the water over the apples and bake them for 35-45mins or until tender and soft. Serve with low fat custard.
